Creative Imperfections

If you’re listening to this at the end of the year and feeling that familiar tightness in your chest… that little voice whispering, “I should’ve done more,” or “This year didn’t go the way I planned,” or “I’m behind”…
I want you to hear this clearly: You did not waste the year.

As creatives, we build a picture in our minds of who we’re supposed to be, what our career is supposed to look like, what success is supposed to feel like, and who we thought we’d become by a certain age.
We cling to that picture like it’s the script we aren’t allowed to deviate from. And then life happens. We change. The world shifts under our feet. And suddenly the story we were so sure about… isn’t true anymore.
But instead of letting the new story breathe, we fight it.
Not anymore. It's time to let the old story go and embrace the new one. 

There's this feeling that sneaks up on creatives at the end of the year: the sense that you're behind. Behind on your goals. Behind on your dreams. Behind on what you said you'd do, who you said you'd be, and where you thought you'd end up by now. But... you are not behind. You are becoming. 

There’s a certain kind of rejection that creatives know too well. And it’s not the obvious kind like the email that flat-out says no. No, the harder rejection is the silent kind. The kind where you put your work out into the world and hear… nothing. 

There’s a funny thing creatives do. We love beginnings. Beginnings feel shiny. They’re sparkly little daydreams dressed up as productivity. But endings? Endings don’t whisper. Endings stare you down. Endings demand presence and patience and a level of commitment that makes most creative brains immediately look for the nearest exit. 

There’s this myth that January has magic powers.
“January Me” is somehow going to be more disciplined, more organized, more motivated, even though Current Me is ignoring everything I said I wanted.
That’s not how it works.
January doesn’t change you.New Year’s Day doesn’t come with a new personality download.
If you’re avoiding your dreams in December, you’re probably going to avoid them in January too... just with a new planner and a fresh set of excuses.
Let's finish strong, so we can start strong!

You didn’t choose struggle for the sake of suffering, you chose possibility instead of predictability. Let's be honest - creatives are the only people who will leave a 9-to-5 job, a steady paycheck, and a sense of security… to chase rejection, feast on uncertainty, and call it “living the dream.”
